World's Best Margherita Pizza
Our title is not click bait! This really is the recipe for the world’s best margherita pizza!
Chef, Johnny Di Francesco, won the World Pizza Championship in 2014 with this recipe. Johnny has released a cookbook called, World’s Best Pizza and we were lucky enough to get our hands on his recipe for margherita pizza (which appears in the cookbook) to share with you all.
The World’s Best Pizza Margherita
The following recipe is an extract from World’s Best Pizza by Johnny Di Francesco.
The classic and delicious Pizza Margherita. This is the recipe I used when competing at the Campionato Mondiale Della Pizza (Pizza World Championship) which was held in Parma, Italy. It was there and for this pizza that I was awarded the title of world’s top Margherita Pizza!
220g (8oz) Pizza dough*
50g (2oz) Buffalo Mozzarella, sliced
60g (2 ½ oz) San Marzano tomatoes, peeled and crushed
4 fresh basil leaves
Drizzle of extra virgin olive oil
Roll out the pizza dough on to a baking tray or bench for stone cooking.
Spread the San Marzano tomatoes over the dough.
Top with the Buffalo Mozzarella, place four basil leaves on top and drizzle with some extra virgin olive oil.
DOMESTIC OVEN: Bake for ten minutes at 250–280°C (500–536°F)
WOOD FIRE OVEN: 90 seconds at 400°C (752°F)
