How To Hull A Strawberry In 15 Seconds
When preparing a strawberry for eating, you’ll want to remove the leaves and the white part (called the hull or calyx) at the top of the berry.
You could just chop it off with a knife, but that would waste perfectly good fruit at the top of the berry. The other option is to dig it out with a paring knife, but that gets tedious if you’re preparing a lot of strawberries, and also risks injury if you’re not so steady with a knife.
Instead, try this clever trick. Simply insert a drinking straw into the end of the strawberry and push it all the way through. When you pull the straw out, the hull and leaves will come straight out!
You can then use the strawberries in a fruit salad, a smoothie, a dessert or any other way you like to eat them, without having to deal with any tough bits!
