hold a tape measure in place

Don’t you hate when the tape measure keeps moving when you’re trying to measure a long wall or piece of furniture by yourself?

Most tape measures have a hook in the end to secure around a nail or pin, but it’s not always practical to use this feature, especially for items of furniture or walls that you don’t want to drive a nail into.

Some tape measures have magnets to help secure them to the surface, but not all tape measures have this handy feature and not all surfaces are magnetic.

Instead, use this simple tip to hold it in place.

First, attach a blob of Blu-Tack on the underside of the tape measure hook. Be sure to position it on the underside of the hook, not the end. That way the hook sits flush with the wall to ensure accurate measurement.

Next, position the hook at the end of the wall or item you are measuring, ensuring that the hook is flush with the edge.

When the tape measure is extended to the other end of the wall, the hook will remain in place to make measuring the wall simple and easy.
