We show you how to remove old silicone and apply new silicone around the edge of a bathtub to keep water out.
“A lot of people don’t realise that the joint between the bathtub and the wall needs to flexible. Here they’ve used a grout, which isn’t flexible, and that’s why it’s falling away. I’m going to replace it with a flexible silicone sealant. This one is white, watertight and should give the wall a great look.
I’m just placing a drop sheet in the bath, so nothing scratches it and I don’t lose anything down the drain. I’m using the grout saw to remove the old grout. It’s important that you remove all the old grout and silicone. When you hear that scraping noise, it means I’m on the tile and it’s clean.
Now it’s clean I’ve just masked either side of the join with tape to give the silicone a nice, clean line. Before I start, I’m just going to cut the nozzle down to match the tape at a 45 degree angle.
It’s important to push the gun forward as you want to force the silicone down inside the joint. With a finger dipped in soapy water, I’m going to pull the silicone back towards me and smooth the surface.
