Floating floors

Laying new floating floors yourself can be a simple home improvement for you to complete on your own.
Floating floors are available in a wide range of thicknesses, finishes and patterns.
Preparation is key when laying a new floor as if done poorly it can lead to boards delaminating and popping up all over the place.
First consider the subflooring. Carpet will need to be removed while vinyl and tiles in a sound condition can have the floor laid directly over the top. If it is concrete, make sure it is dry and nice and level.
If you’re installing in the kitchen, make sure the cabinets are installed before the flooring is added.
Measure the room before buying your boards. The length times the width gives you the total area. Divide this by the area the packs cover to determine how many boxes of boards you’ll need to complete the job. It’s also a good idea to buy a spare box of boards in case you need to replace some boards later down the track.
Next to finish the preparation you need to remove any skirting and to cut a clearance gap under the door jamb. Lastly vacuum the floor to clear it of dust and debris.
